Celebrating Exciting Moments in Life
Dear Friends,
"This is the most exciting moment of my life," said my daughter Julia, with only nine-years of experience to base it on. "Way better than Disneyworld," her older sister Christine agreed. Our dog Bonnie was about to give birth, and though the girls were excited, I sat in her whelping pen ready, but worried.
You can see from the picture, Bonnie celebrates her first Mother's Day with eight pups of her own.
I remember another first; it was 6:00 pm and somebody had yet to honor my first five months as a new mommy. Somebody should have taken me out, but instead somebody was upstairs fumbling about. I felt disappointed and cheated. At last somebody came downstairs holding the most cherubic chubby-cheeked baby I had ever laid eyes on. Somebody had been struggling to dress baby Christine in her burgundy velvet and white lace Christmas dress, two months too small and most definitely the wrong season. Obviously somebody had also done battle with her little white tights, and the tights had won. Nonetheless, she looked cute from head to toe with her velvet hat and black patent leather shoes. "I just wanted her to look nice when we went out," my wonderful somebody said softly.
We all celebrate Mother's Day because we have or had a mom, and some of us celebrate it because we are moms. This month it’s appropriate to include another excerpt from the upcoming book, Preparing My Heart for Motherhood: A Shower of Wisdom (Jan. 2009)As a reader, do you have engaging cover ideas for the study? E-mail me some suggestions!

When my sister-in-law told me about Secret Keeper Girl: 8 Great Dates for you and Your Daughter by Dannah Gresh I was excited to buy it. Now my eleven-year-old daughter Christine and I have already gone on a few of the excursions and I look forward to beginning the program with my younger daughter Julia when she begins fourth grade.
The materials include a mother’s planning guide, a daughter’s diary, a CD by Dannah Gresh and Rebecca St. James for travel time, and stickers. The expeditions range from a tea for two to a shopping trip to a day in an art gallery. Each date encourages your daughter to look at the power of true beauty and modesty and prompts mother/daughter discussion. Questions include, Just what is real physical beauty? What’s the source of beauty? Why do I have to dress modestly? With two daughters, I’m thankful for materials like these. Give yourself something incredible—dates with your daughter.
