Arise and Blessed...

May 2009

“Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: ‘Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all’” (Proverbs 31:28-29)

Wouldn’t it be great to find those verses handwritten on this year’s Mother’s Day card? Alas, I fall short of the Proverbs 31’s description of the ideal woman. But King Lemuel credits the descriptive passage to his mother. If a woman taught her son these words and he became king, maybe we should take note!

What might cause your husband to say you’re tops and your children to rise up and call you blessed? The final two verses of the Proverbs 31 contain the answer:

Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate. (Proverbs 31:30-31)

“A woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” How wonderful to be described that way! One woman’s question, “How would you like to be remembered by your friends and family?” inspired me to write my own Motherhood Mission Statement.

Ann’s Motherhood Mission Statement:
I hope my children remember me as a mom who loved and cherished them and shared the love and light of Jesus. I hope they know that my love for them is unconditional.

I hope my husband feels respected, loved, honored, and that I encourage him to be the man God wants him to be.

Mother’s Day might be a great reminder to take a little time to consider and personalize your own motherhood mission statement. May God bless you with a clear focus on this Mother’s Day and beyond.

______________Motherhood Mission Statement:

Lord, bless this dear mom. May she hunger to spend time with You in prayer and in Your Word. I pray she can rely on You in her parenting and teach her children all about You and Your salvation. Help her live out her mission statement and walk in Your ways.
