God's Unfailing Love

February 2009

A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save. But the eyes of the lord are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love. (Psalm 33:17-18)

In the NIV Bible, the term “unfailing love” comes up 32 times. Let me share a few:

 How priceless is your unfailing love! Both high and low among men find refuge in the shadow of your wings. (Psalm 36:7)

But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. (Psalm 13:5)

Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,” says the lord, who has compassion on you. (Isaiah 54:10)

Hold onto that promise. God’s unfailing love for you will not be shaken!

My musical daughter has struggled with middle school and self-esteem. I have claimed the following verse from Psalm 90:14 for her. “Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.” I hope and pray that she will be satisfied each morning with God’s unfailing love and that she will sing for joy and be glad all the day long.

This February, remember God’s unfailing love. And not just because it’s Valentine’s Day—choose love. It has eternal value and everlasting profit.

Turn off the computer and plant a kiss on your husband’s lips, hug your child and say, “You are so dear to me,” call a friend and tell them why you appreciate them. As in the 1 Corinthians 13 love chapter, be patient, kind, protect others, trust, hope, rejoice in the truth, and persevere.

That same chapter closes with, “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” It’s the greatest because it lasts forever—so let’s find our hope in His unfailing love, and invest in what’s eternal.

My prayer for you is from 1 Peter 1:3-4 and Ephesians 3:18-19. Why not pray this for those you love?

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade—kept in heaven for you.

And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
